KOMUNIKASI ANTARBUDAYA DAN IDENTITAS ADAT: PERAN KODE SIMBOLIK DALAM MELESTARIKAN WARISAN BUDAYA SUKU ANAK DALAM DI JAMBI, INDONESIA

Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) di Jambi merupakan salah satu komunitas adat yang kini berada dalam tekanan kuat akibat modernisasi, alih fungsi hutan, serta proses asimilasi yang berlangsung cepat. Kondisi tersebut berpotensi menggerus sistem nilai, praktik budaya, dan pola komunikasi tradisional yang selama ini menjadi penopang identitas komunal mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan menggambarkan bagaimana SAD memanfaatkan bentuk komunikasi simbolik seperti simpul tali serta tradisi lisan, pantun, dan dialog ritual untuk menjaga keberlanjutan budaya dan memperkuat kohesi sosial. Menggunakan pendekatan etnografi kualitatif, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif di kawasan Bukit Duabelas dan wawancara mendalam dengan para tetua adat, termasuk Temenggung, Depati, dan Dukun. Analisis dilakukan melalui kerangka etnografi komunikasi Hymes serta semiotika budaya Hall. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa simpul tali tidak sekadar berfungsi sebagai penanda praktis, tetapi juga sebagai simbol yang memuat pesan tentang harmoni, peringatan, dan hubungan antarkelompok. Tradisi lisan—terutama pantun dan petuah adat—memegang peran penting dalam transmisi nilai, pendidikan karakter, dan penguatan identitas generasional. Struktur komunikasi hierarkis dalam komunitas turut mengatur legitimasi pengambilan keputusan serta memastikan keberlangsungan norma adat. Di tengah hadirnya teknologi modern, masyarakat tetap mempertahankan praktik-praktik komunikasi tersebut dengan berbagai bentuk adaptasi. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa sistem komunikasi simbolik dan lisan menjadi bagian inti dari strategi SAD dalam mempertahankan identitas budaya serta menegosiasikan posisinya dalam konteks sosial yang berubah. Temuan ini memperkaya kajian komunikasi antarbudaya dan pelestarian budaya di masyarakat adat Indonesia.
