Abstract

One of Obstacles in controlling HIV / AIDS is the stigma and discrimination against peopleĀ  living with HIV / AIDS. Reports of the data KPA Riau Province by district, From 12 districts in the province of Riau, Pekanbaru was on the first rank, where the number of cases of HIV AIDS with IRT work was on the third rank, that the number of HIV cases is 13% and 11% of AIDS cases. Research purpose is to known the descriptions of stigma and discrimination on PLWHA Housewife in Pekanbaru City Year 2015. Type of research that used is qualitative with phenomenology approach. Informants in this research is 9 with 5 key informants and 4 supporting informants with in-depth interviews. The result showed that the issue of stigma on PLWHA housewife is HIV / AIDS is a dangerous disease, a dirty disease, disgusting illness, the notion that PLWHA is a bad person / people who are not true, assumption that every HIV housewife makes the children definitely infected with HIV. The issue of discrimination on PLWHA housewives is separation of cutlery and clothes, shunned / both by PWLHA and families, expulsion by residents, use of personal protective equipment that is excessive in Hospital.The conclusion of this study is the stigma and discrimination against PLWHA are still common, especially in the community. The advice are doing KIE strategy with dissemination of correct information in a planned and sustainable
